There are several items on Tuesday’s City Council meeting agenda that may raise a few eyebrows.

One item is the discussion of a draft agreement that has been proposed by the Redevelopment Agency of the City of Mesquite with the Las Vegas Clark County Library District in regards to the empty lot that the City is considering deeding over to them.

Other minor items include approving a Nonrestricted Gaming Liquor License to Nevada Restaurant Services, Inc. who will be opening the new Dotty’s at the former location of the 19th Hole at 550 South El Dorado Road. Granting the license would allow them to act as a form of liquor store, which would expand what they could offer their customers.

The most contentious item on the agenda, however, is the public hearing for the fees that the City of Mesquite would receive from Deep Roots Medical for their medical marijuana facility. The item would address two of the Mesquite Municipal Codes that establish licensing fees they would owe the City. Based on other Southern Nevada jurisdictions, the City of Mesquite is only the second highest fee-charger at 7%, whereas other areas only charge a 3-4% fee based on gross sales.

The regular City Council Meeting will begin at 5 p.m. in the upstairs Council Chambers at City Hall, 10 E. Mesquite Boulevard.
