To the Editor:
Mesa View Regional Hospital is nothing more than an urgent care center. Today, July 5th 2015 on a busy holiday weekend it is staffed with only a Chiropractor (D.O.) and no Cardiologist is available. Mesquite is a Senior Citizen retirement community and also draws older tourists for the Casino & Golf businesses. Mesa View has NO CONTRACT WITH DIXIE REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER, the closest and highest quality full service hospital in area.
Utah’s Life Flight emergency air transport was the 7th air medical service in the United States and the 1st in Utah to be CAMTS accredited and is the only civilian air transport service in the nation certified by the FAA to conduct hoist/rescue operations. Yet Mesa View does not contract with them either. A patient needing immediate cardiac care or surgery for trauma will be transported to Rose Dominican Hospital via their medical air transport. St. Rose Dominican is FURTHER AWAY and also a low ranking hospital according to Medicare & JACHO evaluators.
These are examples of predatory healthcare system that was designed to control the patient’s RIGHT TO CHOOSE THEIR HEALTHCARE PROVIDER. Even when a Mesquite resident’s primary care MD and specialists are in St. George and connected with Dixie Regional Medical Center, all their Medical Records and family, friends and spiritual advisers are in St. George, UT – Mesa View denies them air transport to the best provider to deliver seamless care and ships them to Las Vegas Rose Dominican AGAINST THEIR CHOICE AND WILL. Why – FOLLOW THE $$$$$. I believe this practice & system is a clear VIOLATION OF TITLE 42 and HIPPA Regulations, and the system was willfully & deliberately designed this way. Mesa View Administration REFUSES to discuss or correct the situation by contracting with St. George UT healthcare providers, even though Dixie Regional is geographically the closest full service Medical Center.
SHAME ON MESA VIEW HOSPITAL AND THEIR FOR-PROFIT PREDATORY HEALTHCARE PRACTICES.

If the information contained in this piece is accurate, then I’m with the writer! What, if anything, can be done to rectify the situation? Can we petition the hospital administration to consider changes to their policies?
I agree with this. A friends husband 6 months ago or so ended up in the Mesa view ER with and aortic dissection. He was flown to st Rose even though my friend requested Dixie regional as I had told her to do. He sat in st Rose for over a week while their so-called cardiologists procrastinated on wether or not to operate. On the 7th day he went into cardiac arrest and passed away. He was a young and vital person. Had been healthy up until that point. It was later determined that due to the length of the tear the only way he would have survived is through surgery. I have no doubt in my mind that he would have survived had his wife’s request for st george been granted. We lost a great person that day. I will never go to mesa view ER unless I M too sick to make it to Dixie regional in time. I refuse.
I hope Mesa View responds to this. I really do as this person is grossly misinformed. I would love to bring understanding to the community about Mesa View and healthcare services in general but I would be out of order since I work there. I love my community and I love what I do as a nurse and it bothers when I hear things like this.
That is really sad and shouldn’t be allowed, but I do want to say Saint Rose Hospital is one of the best hospitals I have ever had to be in. There staff are exceptional and they will take good care of you. But other than that something should be done to stop the B.S out there. I have family who resides there that I love very much and they refuse to go to Mesa View no matter what.
This really needs to be investigated.
1. A D.O. Is NOT a chiropractor.
2. Mesquite is not in Utah.
Perhaps the writer should consider relocating.
My husband was in Mesa View in January – excellent care, 7 RNs and doctors tried to save him, he was transported to Dixie by life flight. You should check your information before posting statements like that.
1) A DO is a doctor of osteopathic medicine, no a chiropractor. They are fully qualified to run an ED.
2) UT Life Flight is NOT the only FAA approved civilian hoisting HEMS agency in the US. Air Methods has some hoist birds, Two Bear Air in Montana has a hoist capable HEMS bird, and 7 Bar Aviation Air Medical is hoist capable. Among others.
3) the patient can request to go to the facility that they want. The phyisican can recommend others, but the patient has to consent to the transfer.
Thank you Cindy. Like a lot of “news” this is filled with some kind of bias. As others have stated a DO is different that a DC. Fully qualified physician, most of my docs have been DO’s. As far as throwing St. Rose (St. is in the title) it is rated very high among the best in the Las Vegas Valley and Henderson Area. This article is a pure “hack job” without fact checking.
Just a note, Richard… this is a Letter to the Editor, not an actual article. It is allowed for those in the community to voice their opinion, facts checked or not…
So, if I sent a letter to the editor claiming that Wal Mart was selling children that get lost in their stores as sex slaves, would you publish it?
If a new organization is going to publish an article, they need to be prepared to stand behind it. A real news organization would check facts first. That is a poorly written article with an enormous level of ignorance on display.
Mesa View Hospital, as far as I know has offered and delivered excellent care. Those with negative comments should remember , Mesquite would have a huge problems without it. Be happy we have a quality facility!
