On Thursday, June 25, I had the very good fortune to spend some time with Travis McDowell General Manager for Conestoga Golf Club. I wanted to get Travis’s thoughts on the Mesquite Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament. Travis was very forthcoming sharing his thoughts on the Chamber, the golf tournament and some of the changes Conestoga is proposing for this year’s tournament.

THOUGHTS ON THE CHAMBER: Travis is a firm believer in the Mesquite Chamber of Commerce. He sees the Chamber as the catalyst for making the City of Mesquite successful! He thinks a strong Chamber means a strong community. Travis feels we have a good local business community and the Chamber should be the conduit for helping business retention as well as business growth. He understands the challenges of a small town community and trying to build consensus with different groups in town.

THOUGHTS ON THE EVENT: Travis thinks the focus should be on the opportunity for businesses to shine within the Chamber. He feels the Chamber Golf tournament gives a unique networking opportunity offering many options for improving member access in business to business in Mesquite. Travis sees a real potential for growth opportunity using the Chamber golf tournament as a foundation for that growth. He thinks this is the best opportunity for businesses to interact. To that end, Travis and his team have put together a plan to support the Chamber and our members changing and improving the 10th Annual Mesquite Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament. Listed below are some of the improvements you’ll see at this year’s event;

Vendor Village- here’s an opportunity for EVERY business to show case their products and services at the golf tournament. Even if you don’t play golf, the Chamber has sponsorship packages that will allow you to be a part of the event! The Vendor Village will give your business the best access to everyone attending the golf tournament without having to sit on a hole for the duration of the event. The focal point is Business to Business interaction.

Conestoga is offering a live remote with Canyon Media’s 95.9 the HAWK a local radio station out of St. George, and a Mesquite Chamber member. Participating sponsors will have their company names announced on the station and a chance to be interviewed.

Travis would like this golf tournament to be the “MUST ATTEND EVENT OF THE YEAR”. Travis and his staff are adding some new and fun on course events. Here are some of the changes:

Hole #2 will be the $10,000 Hole in One contest sponsored by Bill Mitchell and Farmers Insurance.

Hole #4 will be the “Tin Cup” Hole, challenging teams to make the best possible score using only a 7 iron!

Hole #15 will be the Chamber Pot of Gold Hole, showcasing accuracy, teams will have a chance to start a par 4 from less than 200 yards away!

There will be a Las Vegas 51’s promotion where your team can throw their golf ball at any point without counting it for a stroke!

Pace of play is the key to having a good time on the golf course. Conestoga has designed these packages and set up the course to ensure optimal pace of play, thus allowing more opportunity for social and business interaction.

Conestoga is offering a Mulligan Team package for $100 per team that includes mulligans, contests and raffle tickets. The Mulligan and contests package are available at check-in August 1.

Success breeds success and it’s Travis’s hope that after a successful event with the Aug 1, tournament there will be interest in holding a 2nd golf tournament each year for the Chamber. As evidenced by all the work and creative ideas Travis and his team “walk the talk” supporting the Mesquite Chamber and local business. We’re fortunate to have Conestoga as a key supporting member of the Mesquite Chamber of Commerce!
