Artists have entered 13 original works in this competition, working from a birthday theme.

Some are patriotic interpretations, some portray humans and animals enjoying the birthday – or hatch – of a younger generation. Virgin Valley Artists Association (VVAA) invites all to visit the Gallery in the coming week to enjoy the art and vote for a favorite entry.

The themed work garnering the most votes will be named “People’s Choice” winner at the artists reception on Thursday, July 23, 4-6 p.m.  The free public reception will honor all artists displaying in the Gallery during July, and winners of the juried competition will be presented with ribbon and cash prizes.   Barbara Ellestad will also present a “Sponsor’s Choice” ribbon to her favorite among the entries.

Also in the spotlight this month is Karron Knight, VVAA’s Artist of the Month.  Karron is showing her fine beaded jewelry and beaded/fringed wearables.  Karron is an award-winning artist who will teach techniques of beaded jewelry construction in a series of classes this fall.  Karron will do a demonstration of her bead art at the July 23 reception.

VVAA offers an impressive schedule of art classes through the summer months, including pottery construction and glazing, drawing, oil/acrylic painting, watercolor painting, 3D tole and

polymer clay art.  Information about all the classes and workshops is available online at www.mesquitefineartscenter.com, and at the Gallery.   Watercolorist Jan J Hansen teaches

VVAA offers a diverse art education program that has been recognized and partially funded by Nevada Arts Council and the NEA Art Works.  Locally, many generous businesses and individuals provide funding and sponsorships to VVAA.   VVAA receives in-kind support from the City of Mesquite and earns cash grants from Greater Mesquite Arts Foundation.   VVAA matches most of those funding sources with its own earnings from sale of member art at the Gallery and other fundraising initiatives.

The Mesquite Fine Arts Gallery is located at 15 West Mesquite Blvd, Mesquite Nevada.  Gallery hours are 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday.  The Gallery is a City-owned facility, operated by all-volunteer staffing of VVAA members. VVAA welcomes residents and tourists to stop in and browse the high quality original artwork and gift wares that are proudly displayed.
