Virgin Valley Artists Association, operators of the Mesquite Fine Arts Gallery, opens its new exhibition, “Abstract Art,” which started on July 27.  This is an excellent opportunity for gallery visitors to see a variety of artwork that allows each person to take an active role of interpretation and reaction to every piece.  Abstract art abandons recognizable images in favor of the non-objective colors, shapes, size, brushstrokes, and other physical attributes.   The “Abstract Art” exhibition can be viewed Monday through Saturday, 10a-4p until August 29.  Eureka Casino Resort sponsors this exhibition; an awards reception for the artists and public will be held August 20, 4-6 p.m.

Also sharing the Gallery spotlight during August is the art of Floyd Johnson.  Mr. Johnson enjoyed a long and varied career as a freelance artist.  His portraits are of particular note.  He will be displaying a collection of his fine works in the Mesa Gallery, and will be present at the reception.

The Mesquite Fine Arts Gallery is a City-owned facility, operated by the VVAA as a cultural center for the community and a showplace for original artwork.  VVAA, a nonprofit organization, runs the gallery entirely with member volunteers.  Gallery exhibitions are rotated monthly, allowing for the display of numerous art mediums and art genres.  VVAA also operates a full service pottery studio that is open for public use, and offers a variety of art classes and workshops, as well as hosting a broad range of cultural events at the Gallery.

The programs and operations of VVAA are supported in part by financial grants, sponsorships and donations from Nevada Arts Council, Greater Mesquite Arts Foundation, and local businesses and individuals who help to promote the power of the arts for the region.

The artist group offers free art classes for school-age children and adults, starting in September.

For more information, visit the gallery at 15 West Mesquite blvd, Mesquite, Nevada, or see www.mesquitefineartscenter.com and Facebook.
