The latest revelations about the Clinton Foundation goes beyond the norms of good stewardship.

Consider this report last week by the New York Times.

Former President Bill Clinton received the “lifetime achievement award” at a fundraising gala sponsored by the Happy Hearts Fund, a charity dedicated to building schools in Indonesia after the devastating 2004 tsunami.

The event initially reported expenses of $363,413. Not bad until you find out Bill Clinton only attended after Happy Hearts agreed to pay $500,000 to the Clinton Foundation.

Mr. Clinton’s fee was initially undisclosed and, unknown to those who gave to support Happy Hearts, it ate up almost a quarter of the proceeds from the charitable event. His fee alone would have built 10 schools in Indonesia.

We’ll leave the political ramifications of the Clinton Foundation and the conduct of its primary beneficiary — the Clinton family — to others. We’ll only point out that Nevada is home to a number of very good non-profit organizations. None of them will tell you that what transpired here was good stewardship.
