There will be a community barbecue and auction fundraiser tomorrow, June 18, 2015 at 5:30 p.m. at the Thomas Dudley Memorial Park, 150 W Virgin Street in Bunkerville to benefit Bunkerville resident Ron Barnum, who is currently on a waiting list for a new kidney. Barnum was ten years old when he was diagnosed with Type I Diabetes and even with careful management, his kidney function diminished, forcing him to receive dialysis treatments for ten hours a day. Being unable to work, his wife, Lisa, is the only one able to try and bring in enough money to make ends meet.MLN-Barnumjun18-15

Tomorrow’s barbecue is a start for the family to start saving money for the procedure. According to www.transplantliving.org, the cost of a transplant from start to finish is over $262,000.

Realizing this cost, the communities of Bunkerville and Mesquite have come together, as they have so many times in the past, to help one of their own.

Several businesses and private citizens and families have already stepped up to donate items for auction such as massages, beef, guns and rifles, gift cards, electronics, handmade goods, services, golf equipment and golf rounds at local courses and so many more items that were not available at the time of printing.

The cost of the barbecue is just $10 for those ages 11 years old and up, $5 for ages 0-10 and a family rate of $30 for those with immediate family attending.

Flyers and posts on Facebook note that there will be music, games, the splash pad and of course, good food and the auction for everyone’s enjoyment.

Those interested in helping Barnum, but unable to attend the event may submit a donation via GoFundMe at http://www.gofundme.com/ronbarnum. All checks brought to the fundraiser will need to be payable to Ron Barnum.
