Artists Face Off in Gallery Exhibition

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Themed monthly exhibitions at the Mesquite Fine Arts Gallery are intended to keep artists engaged in their work over the hot summer months and create interest for the gallery’s audience.  June’s theme, “Face to Face,” has surely done both.  More than 40 interpretations of that theme are entered in the show that runs June 1-27. Fine portraits of humans and animals dominate this competition, but some artists have added their own twist to the topic.

Gallery visitors can vote for their favorite “Face to Face” entry for a “People’s Choice” award that will be announced Thursday, June 18, 4-6pm, at the public reception and awards ceremony.  Juried award winners will be presented with ribbons and cash at that time, along with a “Sponsor’s Choice” ribbon winner chosen by this month’s sponsor, Bank of Nevada.

In addition to the special exhibition, featured Artist of the Month, Tom West, is showing a collection of his paintings during June.  He has painted a variety of subjects and scenes for his impressive display, weaving fantasy and realism in some of his fine works.

June is a special month for Mesquite Fine Arts Gallery, as it is the anniversary month of its grand opening in 2003. Founding members of Virgin Valley Artists Association, operators of the Gallery, will be recognized at the June 18 reception. The public is cordially invited to celebrate the artists who currently show their work, as well as applauding the vision and years of volunteer work that have carried the Gallery from inspiration to its current successes. Countless area residents have been instrumental in the establishment and growth of the Gallery. Each person who visits the Gallery to purchase a piece of artwork, or enjoy its educational, cultural and social events, helps establish the Gallery as Mesquite’s cultural hub.

Virgin Valley Artists Association thanks its financial supporters for their assistance in promoting the power of the arts in Mesquite. Local business sponsors, individual patrons, the Nevada Arts Council, NEA Art Works, Greater Mesquite Arts Foundation, the City of Mesquite and others have helped fund the arts through their generosity.

The Mesquite Fine Arts Gallery is located at 15 West Mesquite Blvd, Mesquite, Nevada.  It is open Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m.- 4 p.m., offering fine art and gifts.  Call 702-346-1338.  For information about becoming a patron of the Gallery, see www.mesquitefineartscenter.com and Facebook.
