A party was held Monday June 15 at the Mesquite Community and Senior Center celebrating the birth and naming of a baby donkey.

The female baby donkey was born May 6th at “moonrise” at the Scenic Satellite Adoption Center for Peaceful Valley Donkey Rescue.

Balloting took place June 1-June 12. The winning name was picked from a total of 96 names that had been submitted for consideration. The judging took place on Saturday June 14. Judges were volunteers and donkey foster “parents” from the Scenic Adoption Center.20150615_114054

The winning name of Luna was entered by Stevie Rose Church of Kanab Utah. The name is quite fitting for the little donkey as Luna is the Roman Goddess of the moon. She will receive a lovely gift basket.

A raffle was also held for those attending the day’s event.

A second baby was born on May 29th. Making a surprise appearance at the adoption was Jethro a large baby boy. The mothers of the 2 baby donkeys came to the Center following a Fish and Wildlife wild burro roundup at the Sheldon Wildlife Refuge near Reno Nevada.

Thank you to the Mesquite Community and Senior Center for sponsoring the contest and the birthday party.
