As Spring sports begin to wrap up for the year, two of the Virgin Valley High School Boy’s Golf Team are competing at Regionals in Las Vegas at Palm Valley Golf Club this week.

Tuesday’s scores were decent, but both knew they would need to step up their game for Wednesday, as only the top five players will advance to the State Finals in Reno.

For Tuesday, Hogan Fowles shot a 78 while Keani Munford had a bit tougher time shooting a 92 for the 18 holes.

“I played well,” Fowles said. “I just struggled a little with my mid-irons. Luckily I drove the ball well and putted well.”

Munford knows he had a long Wednesday ahead of him. “I had a rough day today (Tuesday). When we got to the course, I was excited and anxious. I felt good until I got to the first box. As I set up, nervousness set in and I lost it. Just not my day.”

Munford also noted that he was eager to come back on Wednesday to redeem himself and play better.

“I caddied for both boys throughout Tuesday,” said Coach Josh Tyrell. “I thought they played well considering how windy it was and how slick the greens were. I think if they get their wits about them, they could have a good Wednesday.”

As of Wednesday morning, Fowles was placed towards the top of the leader board while Munford was in ninth place.
