Colin Warren will perform native American flute April 16 at the Mesquite Fine Arts Gallery

Artists Association (VVAA), Warren performs annual concerts to benefit the arts in Mesquite.  He and his wife Karyn generously sponsor his performance.  This year Warren entitles his performance, “I Walked Out on the Desert.” He will intersperse his haunting Native American flute music with recitation of his own poetic tales, many desert-themed. Light refreshments will be served.

Warren learned the Native American flute many years ago, and frequently plays with flute circles throughout the region.  He is a member of the International Native American Flute Association (INAFA) and the Academy of American Poets. He owns a fine collection of beautifully hand-crafted flutes, and will play several of them in his performance.

Warren is a versatile artist. As a member of VVAA, he has exhibited his artwork and poetry. In 2011 and 2012 his poetry was named Best of Show in the annual “Artists and Poets” exhibition at the Mesquite Fine Arts Gallery. His concert will be played with the 2015 edition of that exhibition as his backdrop. His live performance also appropriately falls during National Poetry Month.

Warren has spent much of his life in the Southwest. He has traveled the canyons and waters of the Colorado River, drawing inspiration from the moods and mystery of remote areas. For many years he worked as a cartographer with the US Geological survey. In that capacity, he worked on the reclaiming of the border line between Utah and Arizona that was first set in 1910 with sandstone markers. He helped reclaim the high water boundary of Lake Powell using old field notes from the original survey. Warren shows his reverence for the wilderness when he recounts, “There is nowhere quite so symphonic as playing my flutes at canyon ends or in a large alcove with Lake Powell lapping at the shoreline.”

Tickets for Colin Warren’s April 16 concert are $5, available at the Mesquite Fine Arts Gallery.  The Gallery has limited seating, so advance ticketing is highly recommended. The Gallery is located at 15 W. Mesquite Blvd, Mesquite Nevada.  Doors will open at 5:30 p.m., with Warren’s performance starting at 6 p.m. Art Gallery phone: 702-346-1338.
