To the Editor:

On behalf of the Mesquite Chamber of Commerce, I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the many volunteers, businesses and City officials who helped make the Ducky Derby a huge success and a great community event:

First, special thanks to Nick Montoya and the City of Mesquite Recreation and Leisure Services Department, for preparing Hafen Park, and to Mayor Al Litman and Councilor Cindy Delaney for their participation in the day’s festivities.

Event Volunteers: Merri Erickson, Anne and Ray Hunt, Peggy Pope, Sandra Ramaker, Mark Guertin, Doug Hewett, Ron Wilson, and Mern Hafen, who appeared as ‘Derby the Duck’. Also the CERT volunteers for being onsite and ensuring a safe event.

Businesses who sponsored or made donations: Danielle’s Chocolates, MegaPlex, CappTech, Relay for Life, City Shoppes Embroidery, Colonial Property Management, Quality One Realty and Kids for Sports.
Fun Festival Activities: Teri Nehrenz- Face Painting, Aida Caron, Coleyne Angel and Patty Bjornson-Chamber Book Sale and Ring Toss, Relay for Life, the Mesquite Exchange Club, and the Mesquite Salvation Army.

Special thanks to Kristina Melle, Mesquite Chamber Office Administrative Specialist, for her ‘behind the scenes’ work and for donating a gift basket.

Finally, thanks to Chamber Board members Noel Smith, Keith Buchhalter, Coleyne Angel, and Blake Syndegaard for helping at the event. And, of course, a big thank you to Nancy Hewett, Chamber Board member and head of the Events Committee, for her timeless dedication to making this a successful event!
