TUESDAY:
SCORES IN THE THIRTIES LEAD MMGA

Sometimes golf makes no sense.  Tuesday at Falcon Ridge it was cool windy and very wet but eleven members recorded nine hole scores in the thirties.  The lowest nine holes was a one under par 34 on the front side by John Meyer who added a 42 on the back for his 76.  His forward tee playing partner Aaron Kennard shot a 36 on the same front side and added a 41 on the back for his 76.  Meyer won medalist honors going bogey on the 13th hole to Kennard’s double bogey.  Not to worry, Kennard’s 76 was a net 61 to win low net honors by six strokes.  Frank Vandeweghe had the best eighteen holes shooting a 39-38-77-77 and was rewarded with second low net.  Andrew Yeh, Bill Irace, Ken Ward, Bill Schnick, Jim Guttridge, Dave Jordan and Jeff Hoyt each shot under 40.  Hoyt actually was the fourth player to shoot under 80 with his 78.  Second low net was won by Joel Reilly (89), and net 67, over Guttridge when he scored bogey, bogey, bogey to break the tie.  Don Mannon (84) and net 68 broke a three way tie for fourth when he went par, par and Bill Irace (82) went bogey, par.  Sixth low net went to Jeff Hoyt (78) and also net 68 because he bogeyed the first two handicap holes.

THURSDAY:
VANDEWEGHE’S EAGLE IS BETTER THAN YEH’S

Both Frank Vandeweghe and Andrew Yeh shot nice rounds of 75 at the Palms on Thursday.  Vandeweghe played from the forward tees and Yeh from the back tees.  Both players scored eagles.  But it was Vandeweghe’s eagle that counted because his was on the most important hole the first handicap hole.  Yeh recorded his eagle on the 10th hole which is the 5th handicap hole.  Vandeweghe’s eagle on number four and his birdie on hole one resulted in his two under par 34 on the front nine holes.  Yeh had his eagle and two birdies for his 75 for second low gross honors.  Two members were tied for the low net scores of 67.  They were Delbert Moore (82) and Jim Barfknecht (85).  It went to the 4th hole to decide the winner.  Both men bogeyed the first three holes and Moore parred the fifth to win it outright.  Jim Smith (80) had his best round since coming back from back issues scoring nine pars and net 69 for third place low net.  There was a three way log jam for 4th.  Bubba Petrick (83), his third straight 83, Dan Trower (89) and Don Mannon (84) all had net 70’s.  As usual, Petrick won the fourth spot with a easy par five on the 4th hole.  After Trower and Mannon bogey, Trower won 5th with a par on the second handicap hole.  The shot and hole of the day was turned in by Vandeweghe.  On the par five 4th hole he hit his second shot from 190 yards out to within six feet and made the putt for medalist honors.

The next scheduled play is Tuesday, March 10 at Falcon Ridge at 7:00 and Thursday Mar 12th at the Canyons at 8:00.  Always check your sign up sheets for any corrected times or places.  Anyone interested in joining the MMGA can call 346-6363.  Also check out our website at www.mesquitemensgolf.com.
