MMGA Update March 27, 2015

TUESDAY:   TEAM DURENBERGER. MOORE, NELSON, SCHNICK WIN TOURNAMENT
Tuesday’s monthly mini-tournament was the annual “pink ball” – scramble format.  Two gross scores were recorded, the pink ball and the other three man scramble.  If you finished and did not turn in the pink ball, eight strokes would be added to your score.  So strategy and accuracy of the pink ball player was essential.  At the end of the day three teams were assessed the eight stroke penalty out of seven teams who finished.  The team of Tom Durenberger, Delbert Moore, Willie Nelson and Bill Schnick had birdies on hole 3, 4, 5, 9, 10.11 and 16. Their scramble score was the lowest scramble score by one shot over the team of  Jeff Hoyt, Bill Irace, Don Mannon and Joel Reilly.  The first place team’s score of 83 on the pink ball was tied by the team of Andrew Yeh, John Meyer, Dan Hoffman and Dan Trower.

The results of the Pink Ball Tournament held yesterday are as follows:

Total/Pink Ball/Scramble
1st Place  –  148 / 83 / 65 – Schnick, Durenberger, Moore, Nelson
2nd Place  – 151 / 83 / 68 – Yeh, Meyer, Hoffman, Trower
3rd Place    – 151 / 85 / 66 – Hoyt, Irace, Mannon, Reilly
4th Place    – 157 / 87 / 70 – Swayne, Smitty, Tadej

THURSDAY: FORWARD TEES EXCEL
More and more MMGA players are moving to the forward tees to enjoy the game a lot more.  Thursday at the Casa Blanca five out of the six net score awards were from the front tees.  In fact, the only member to shoot in the 70’s was Tim Miller who shot 41-38-79 for medalist honors.  Andrew Yeh (80) was one back. Ken Ward, with four birdies could only manage an 81 and Dave Jordan an 82.  Ward’s 81 did win him first place low net with a 69.  One shot back in second place was Tom Durenberger (84) and net 70.  Two shots from that was a tie between Russ Clark (91) and Joel Reilly (93) tied with net 72.  Clark’s double bogey won him third while Reilly’s other score dropped him into 4th.  There was also a tie for 5th between Delbert Moore (90) and Don Mannon (88) at 73.  Moore also broke this tie with a double bogey on the fifth hole for fifth dropping Mannon to 6th with something more than a double bogey.  The pin placement on the 5th hole was brutal!

On that same hole, Andrew Yeh had the hole of the day.  His tee shot hit a branch just off the tee box.  From 212yds out he hit his second shot to within eight feet of that monstrosity cup placement.  He challenged it with a firm putt and was rewarded with a sweet birdie.  But hold on a minute.  A little later in a different foursome Ken Ward had the shot of the day as he chipped in for his own great birdie to tie Yeh for that elusive “skin” .  Welcome new member Hal Rundle.

The next scheduled play is Tuesday, March 31st at Falcon Ridge at 7:00 and Thursday April 2nd at the Palms at 7:00.  Always check your sign up sheets for any corrected times or places.  Anyone interested in joining the MMGA can call 346-6363.  Also check out our website at www.mesquitemensgolf.com.
