Local youth compete for scholarships

On Sunday, March 1, the Southern Nevada U.S.B.C. Association held their annual Youth Masters Tournament at Gold Coast Bowling Center in Las Vegas. There were 106 youth bowlers entered. The Tournament is set up in 3 girls and 3 boys divisions. Each gender has 11 years and under and 12 years and over both handicapped and a scratch division at any age.

Ron Nichols was entered in the 12 year and over division with 32 entries. He bowled games of 162,138,140, and 164 totaling 604 and 928 with handicap to finish 3rd. He then competed in a step ladder roll off defeating with handicap:

Travis Sanderson 221 to 174

Zachery Nash 239 to 232

Antonio Hernandez 227 to 198

Winning his Division Ron earned a $350 Scholarship. The money is deposited in the SMART fund at the USBC and will be available to him upon graduation from high school for tuition and books.
