Commissioner Scott J. Kipper is warning Nevada residents that Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield has been a victim of a cyberattack and that personal information of current and past Anthem policy holders has been compromised.

“We have been in close communications with Anthem about this issue, and are monitoring the situation diligently,” said Commissioner Kipper. “As the consumer protection agency for insurance issues in Nevada, we will ensure that all affected Anthem policyholders in Nevada are provided protection against this data breach.”

Anthem will be notifying all current and former costumers whose information has been compromised and will provide credit monitoring and identify protection services free of charge.

Nevadans who believe they may have been affected can call 877-263-7995, the toll-free number Anthem has established to assist consumers. Anthem has also set up a special website at anthemfacts.com to answer questions.

The Division of Insurance may also be contacted with concerns or questions at 702-486-4009 in Las Vegas, and 775-687-0772 in Northern Nevada.

Anthem is the second largest insurance carrier in Nevada with approximately 350,000 covered lives.
