The Virgin Valley High School girl basketball team held a 47-39 lead over the Boulder City High School Eagles Thursday night with 3:38 minutes remaining in the game but could not stop an Eagle rally which outscored the Dawgs 12-4 giving them a 51-49 lead with seconds remaining. It took a last second field goal from Bulldog Bernice Fiso to tie the game at 51-51. In a bit of irony, the Bulldogs had their best offensive display as all starters scored in double figures. Leading the way was Fiso with 13 points followed by Spencer Green with 12. Emma Barnum, Brianna Todd and Kourtney Metzger added 10 points each to the Bulldogs final tally. The Bulldogs had no answer to Megan Morten’s three point shots and Katlyn Daly’s drives through the Bulldog defense for easy scores. Morgan finished the night with 21 points and Daly added 20 to lead the Eagles to victory. The Eagle pair shared in six three-point balls for the night. The Bulldogs finished the season 10-4 in league and 14-9 overall.

Turnovers continued to plague the Dawgs as they had 12 in the first half and trailed 24-23. The Dawgs regained the lead at the end of three periods and built the biggest lead of the game 47-39 before allowing the Eagles back in the game. The Dawgs trailed 56-55 with a minute remaining but had to foul the stalling Eagles in an attempt to get the ball back. The Eagles finished the scoring with four free throws from Daly.

The Dawgs will begin their playoff schedule at 12-2 Faith Lutheran on Wednesday, February 18. The Crusaders were second place finishers behind Spring Valley who went 14-0 in league play and 25-1 overall. The Grizzlies ran routed every Division 1 and 1A opponent this year after going 1-24 in last season. Freshman Kayla Harris and Essence Booker lead the Grizzlies scoring at a 20+ per game average.
