Brandon Lee White, motivational speaker extraordinaire, captivated the eaglets of Beaver Dam Elementary School on Wednesday, February 18.  Brandon is an eloquent orator whose message comes from the heart. Born with a speech defect, he was unable to communicate for many years. This was evident in a video he presented of himself as a child.  His speech was incomprehensible. With perseverance and determination he overcame this handicap and now uses his story to encourage others to “NEVER GIVE UP!”

Brandon gave a presentation during the school day to the students.  He spoke about negative and positive energy.  Negative energy makes excuses, blames others, gives up, and can show itself in bullying.  Negative energy is selfish and hurtful.  Positive energy involves courage, stamina, and taking responsibility for one’s actions. He acknowledged that fears are real but, when faced, lose their power. Students joined him on stage to illustrate his points.  Ethan Garlick and DJ Gonzales bravely danced in front of the entire student body.  Libby Sisson closed her eyes to hold a tarantula (which turned out to be made of rubber).  Yarely Garcia danced a ballroom tango. Jeffrey Starks became an actor. Brandon told the students they should not expect themselves to know everything but to try.  He advised that “being brave is doing what’s right even when it’s scary”.  He encouraged each student to “set an example, to turn negative energy into positive energy”. The presentation came to an end with the audience rocking to “YMCA” and a plethora of positive energy filling the room.

The evening presentation was for a wider audience.  After enjoying an Indian taco dinner prepared by the Beaver Dam staff, families gathered together to learn more about living with positive energy. A pin could have dropped and been heard in the room as Brandon explained how his message has taken root and grown. He is an accomplished ballroom dancer and uses his talent to help handicapped people learn to dance.  He showed videos of two friends, Joanne and Lorraine, both unable to walk. Each was dancing in the video. The audience burst into spontaneous applause watching these brave ladies steal the show. Their radiating smiles of accomplishment left tears in the eyes of many.

Brandon encouraged his audience to never define themselves by their weaknesses.  He said, “The biggest limitations are often the ones we put on ourselves.  Anything worth working for takes time and patience.  Just because you mess up, it doesn’t mean you have to give up.”  Many heads were nodding as he spoke these truthful, inspirational words. He encouraged parents to believe in their children because that support will make them try harder.  Thunderous applause echoed through the room with his closing statements which encouraged everyone to be positive and find what is positive in others.

Brandon Lee White lives in Kansas City, Missouri with his wife and six-month old son. He has taken his message to forty-five states inspiring audiences to focus on the positive aspects of life. He came to Beaver Dam thanks to the work of top eagle, Mrs. Phyllis Leavitt.  She is an exemplary example of a positive-energy person.  The entire Eagle community thanks both Mr. White and Mrs. Leavitt for the meaningful and inspirational evening.
