The Virgin Valley High School wrestling team finished third Saturday morning at the Nevada State Wrestling Tournament behind first place Pahrump Valley and host Lowery High School. Bulldog freshman wrestler Ty Smith got the Dawgs rolling winning the 106 lb. weight class in a decision 5-2 over his Spring Creek opponent. Jacob Baird, wrestling at 113 Lbs., finished third. Bulldog Juan Dominguez repeated last year’s win by pinning three straight opponents to win the 120lbs. class. Cash Crandall added points to the Bulldog total placing fourth at 126 Lbs. Domingo Ramirez also placed fourth in the 132 Lbs. weight classification. Brock Smith finished second in the 160 Lbs. weight classification. The Bulldogs led early in the tournament but had only one qualifier at 170 Lbs. and no qualifiers above that. Pahrump Valley scored 124 points followed by 17-time state champion Lowery with 110 points and Virgin Valley with 94.5 points. Pahrump got two firsts and two seconds in the heavier weight classes to win easily.
