YEH AND MEYER WIN IN LARGE TURN OUT

The first playing day for the MMGA in 2015 hopefully bolds well for the rest of the winter.  Thirty-six players teed it up at Falcon Ridge on Tuesday the largest group in a couple years.  The best of the best, Andrew Yeh and John Meyer defended their tee positions and were rewarded with “best of the best”.  Yeh had three birdies from the back tees for 75 and Meyer, from the forward tees, was just two shots back at 77.  No other player shot below 80.  Tim Miller (81) and Ken Ward (81) were tied for second low gross but Miller out muscled second gross

from Ken Ward with his bogey on the 13 hole. Though Meyer finished second to Yeh he was rewarded with first place low net at 68.  Just one shot back was Don Mannon (84) and a net 69.  There was a three way tie for third net with Bill Irace (81), Ed Hoepfner (82) and Delbert Moore (85) all scoring net 71’s.  Irace’s nice par four on the first handicap hole was rewarded third.  Hoepfner bogeyed for 4th and Moore’s double took the fifth spot.  There was also a three way tie for the 6th and last net position between Dennis Simmons (94), Gary Denhalter (89) and Jim Anderson (93).  Simmon’s won it with his bogey on thirteen.

Paul LeVan had the shot of the day on the difficult uphill par five 10thhole.  His third shot landed a foot from the hole for a “sweet” birdie four.   Tim Miller had the best “oddity” of the day with eight fives in a row from hole nine through 16.  John Hawkins and Gary Denhalter each had eight fours.

IT TAKES FIVE HOLES FOR RODGERS TO BEAT DENHALTER

The theme of the day for the MMGA on Tuesday was ties.  After Jim Naccarato (88) destroys the group with a net score of 66 for low net, second place was a battle royale.  Forward tee player Ray Rodgers (91) and Gary Denhalter (89) tied for second low net with 71.  Denhalter went bogey, bogey, bogey, par, double bogey on his five holes while Rodger’s followed suit through his first four holes until he won it outright with a par on the par five 12th.  Fourth and fifth was a tie as well between Joel Reilly (93) and Russ Clark (95)  at 72.  This tie was broken on the third handicap hole and Reilly won third with a bogey to Clark’s quad.  Guess what, Jim Guttridge (92),  Ed Hoepfner (89) and Don Mannon (92) and J.D. McNeil (87) all tied  for sixth place had to battle it out.  Mannon exscuesed himself early, Hoepfner went next with a double bogey on the second hole.  Guttridge and McNeil shot double, par but Guttridge won the struggle with a par four on the 18th hole.  Andrew Yeh was medalist with a three birdie round of 73.  Miller was second with his 79.

YEH SCORCHES CANYONS WITH AN EAGLE AND FOUR BIRDIES

All the work in the gym and on the range proved very beneficial for Andrew Yeh on Thursday at the Canyons golf course.  One birdie on the front nine gave him an even par 35.  But feathers were literally flying on the back nine as he recorded birdies on 10, 12,13 and an eagle on the 16th hole to score two under on the back for a superb round of 69.  Bill Irace (83) playing with Yeh tried to stay with him scoring a birdie on five and back to back birdies on holes seven and eight to match Yeh’s even par 35 on the front.  New member Jeff Hoyt played a steady round of 37-40-77 for second place low gross.  Tim Miller played very consistent golf as he recorded a pair of 39’s for a third place 78.  Manny Lira (91) and Russ Clark (88) blew away the field for low net honors with their 67’s.  But Lira’s triple bogey on the first handicap hole handed first place to Clark.  Pat Smitty and Gary Denhalter had a pair of 85’s and net 69’s but Denhalter handed another gift to Smitty for third place when he tripled bogeyed the sixth hole.  Lew Roney (84), Jim Naccarato (91) and J.D. McNeil(81) with net 71’s battled for the last two spots.  Naccarato dropped out of contention with a double bogey.  Roney earned fifth place with a bogey and a great par four on the tenth hole.
