The first period of play Friday night at Moapa Valley High School was a miserable display of offensive might by either team as the score stood at 5-4, advantage Pirates over Virgin Valley High School, before the Dawgs decided to get center Kourtney Metzger into the game. Metzger would finish the night with 18 points at 20 rebounds in the last three periods of play. Spencer Green added 8 points in the Bulldog win. Forward Bernice Fiso also had 10 boards for the Dawgs. The Bulldogs garnered the win despite 32 turnovers for the night. “We could have been blown out early,” said Bulldog coach Chimane Creer. “We dodged a bullet but will take it with four games to go.”

The Bulldogs trailed 14-9 midway through the second period before the Dawgs rallied behind Metzger and Green to take a 19-16 halftime lead. Metzger had six points followed by Green with four.

Bulldog forward Brianna Todd led the Dawgs with six points in the third period keeping the Dawgs up 29-25. The final period was all Metzger as her teammates found her underneath plus she asserted her height advantage to score 10 points to lead the Dawgs to victory 44-38.

The win kept the Ladies in second place with an 8-2 record behind Boulder City’s 9-0 record followed by Chaparral at 7-2. The Dawgs will travel to Sunrise Mountain on Monday February 2 before returning to host Chaparral on Wednesday February 4 in a crucial league matchup.
