Lady Bulldogs second half surge defeats Panthers 40-30

Bulldog guards Emma Barnum and Spencer Green found the range in the second half leading the Dawgs to a 40-30 win over Division 1V opponent Pahranaghat Valley. Barnum and Green had 12 each. Bulldog center Kourtney Metzger’s 8 points and shot blocks in the first half kept the Dawgs on top with a 21-19 lead. The Dawgs were down 15-10 with 5:25 remaining in the second period before Green, Barnum and Metzger took charge outscoring the Panthers 11-4.

The Dawgs began the second half of play utilizing a full court press which accounted for numerous Panther turnovers. The Dawgs held the Panthers to two free throws and zero baskets to extend their lead to 32-21. Barnum and Green meanwhile put up nine of the Bulldogs total in the period. The Bulldogs led 37-21 before the Panthers started bombing from three point land. The Panthers hit three 3 points shots to make the final score 40-30 in favor of the Lady Dawgs.

The Bulldogs will host Desert Pines on January 16 in an all-important Sunrise League matchup. The Jaguars stand 3-2 in league behind the Dawgs 4-1 record. The Jaguars are led by Jordan Bailey and See’Airrah Evans-Collins. Bailey had 17 and 19 points in her last two outings.
