The Mesquite Fire & Rescue staff has been incredibly busy this year with many calls, sometimes more than can be handled at once.
Below is a list of some of the incidents and moments of interest for the department.
FY 14 EPMG Grant-$35,000 (Emergency Management)
1/6/14 – FF/Paramedic Josh Abston hired, replacing an employee that resigned.
2/14/14 – Fire in a dryer on Condor Ave. Damage limited to one machine.
3/4/2014 – Small fire in a large commercial laundry facility. Damage limited to 1 machine.
3/5/14 – Brush fire in area of Hughes Middle School.
3/10/14 – FF/Paramedic Colton Wood hired, replacing an employee that resigned.
3/12/14 – Mutual Aid with Clark County for a semi fire I-15 mm 97. Truck and Trailer destroyed.
3/28/14 – Small brush fire in the area of Hafen Park.
3/29/14 – Large brush fire in the area of Hafen Park.
3/30/14 – Fire in the bathroom of Desert Rose Park. Damage limited to toilet paper dispenser.
4/16/14 – Fire in the walls of an apartment on E. Old Mill. Extensive damage to interior and exterior walls of 1 unit.
4/19/14 – Mutual Aid with Clark County for a vehicle Fire I-15 mm 107.
5/3/14 – Couch fire on a porch with exposure to the home on Sea Pines. Couch destroyed. No extension of fire to structure.
5/11/14 – Structure fire on Cottonwood Dr. Severe fire damage to living room. Significant smoke damage to remainder of home. 1 cat perished.
5/18/14 – Mutual Aid to Clark County for a vehicle fire on Lime Kiln Rd with 1 person transported to hospital.
5/26/14 – Kash Christopher begins his service as Fire Chief of the City of Mesquite.
6/9/14 – Mutual Aid to Beaver Dam for an RV fire I-15 mm 4. 1 person transported to hospital for evaluation. RV destroyed.
6/26/14 – Vehicle fire on N. Sandhill. Damage limited to engine compartment.
7/1/14 – Vehicle fire on I-15 mm 120.
7/31/14 – Semi Truck on Fire I-15 mm 114. Vehicle destroyed.
8/2/14 – Vehicle fire on Riverside Rd at 2nd South. Damge limited to engine compartment of vehicle.
8/31/14 – Structure Fire on Bull Whip Point. Heavy damage to garage area of home. Smoke and water damage to significant portion of interior.
9/6/14 – Fire Department pinning and academy graduation.
9/8/14 – Record Thunderstorms impact Mesquite and the surrounding area. Extended power outage with people trapped in town due to Highway closures.
9/17/14 – Vehicle Fire 717 Hafen Ln. Vehicle heavily damaged with no extension of fire to nearby garage.
9/24/14 – Small Explosion in a factory with 1 person critically burned and flown to Las Vegas. Damage limited to area of breaker panel.
9/25/14 – Vehicle Fire on Bulldog Dr.
9/24/14 – Another round of thunderstorms impact Mesquite area and I-15. Results in temporary road closures and long term lane restrictions.
10/18/14 – Fire on W. Mesquite Blvd with critical smoke inhalation patient. 2 transported for evaluation. Damage limited to cabinets above stove.
11/10/14 – FF/EMT’s Karen Hughes and Zebulon Jensen hired to replace employees that resigned.
11/21/14 – Single vehicle rollover I-15 mm 120 with ejected driver suffering extrememly critical injuries..
11/29/14 – Multiple brush fires in the area of Trailside Subdivision.
12/8/14 – Crews responded to a report of smoke coming from an apartment on Dairy Ln. Forced entry and found a pot on the stove with no extension of fire to the structure.
12/8/14 – Responded to the Police Department on Mayan Circle for an odor investigation. Thorough search of building with no problem found.
12/8/14 -Crews responded to a 2 vehicle accident with a vehicle on its side at Pioneer and Turtleback. Extrication required for 1 patient. 2 patients transported to Mesa View Hospital.
12/9/14 – A shift performed school fire drills at VVES, HMS, and VVHS.
12/22/14 – Apartment complex on N Grapevine for General Fire Alarm. Arrived with no smoke or fire showing. No problems found. Unable to reset system. Advised management to have alarm company service system.
12/28/14 – Responded to Scenic, AZ to assist Beaver Dam Fire with a single vehicle rollover. R-11 transported 2 patients to Mesa View Regional Hospital.
