Mesquite Fire Chief wishes you Happy Holidays!

MLN-Chief2dec25-14Despite the position you hold, any time you’re the “new kid in town” you have a learning curve.  My first half year as Mesquite’s Fire Chief has had a few “bumps in the road”.  But the talent and unlimited potential that MFR has displayed made my transition here a smooth one.  During my first week, a nice lady came to the department wanting to thank the responding medics who brought her back.  In my career, that has only happened a few times.  Since I arrived in late May, it’s a common occurrence; one that I love seeing.

Since my arrival here, I have emphasized safety and standardization and gave the framework of the programs I wanted implemented to the Captains and Firefighters to create.  The results have been nothing short of outstanding and have allowed this department to take ownership in the direction we want to go.  We also have stressed safety in all aspects of the job.  Whether it is a structure fire, medical call, or vehicle accident, Mesquite Fire will take the necessary measures to ensure safety of their fellow Firefighters and the citizens of Mesquite.

I am honored to be the Fire Chief, a representative of the City of Mesquite, an honor I take very serious.  I am also very proud of the accomplishments the men and women in Mesquite Fire Rescue have brought to this community.  We still have some work to do, and in 2015 we will continue to move forward.

In closing, I ask that you keep our troops serving at sea or on foreign lands, peace or at war, in your thoughts.  It takes a very special type of person to do that, and being away over the holidays can be very hard.  Yet, they do it with pride because they are an amazing group of people who are keeping us all safe.  And to you and yours, may this be a safe and prosperous holiday season.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
