MLN-Treedec4-14A steady drizzle did not damper the tree lighting ceremony at the City of Mesquite’s tree lighting ceremony Tuesday night in front of City Hall, 10 E Mesquite Boulevard. A large enthusiastic crowd applauded Santa and Mrs. Claus as they arrived in a big red fire truck to begin the festivities. Mayor Al Litman explained to the gathering that due to the rain, the tree lighting would be pushed up. After the invocation by Pastor Patrick O’Neal of the Mesquite Lutheran Church the countdown began. Mayor Litman led the crowd as the lights on Mesquite’s tree lit up the rotunda. The Mesquite Community Band performed as local schools from elementary to high school choirs sang Christmas carols. Litman gave the closing remarks as rain continued to fall.
