The Christmas vacation had a festive send-off thanks to the “Happy Holidays” program presented by the Beaver Dam Eaglets under the guidance of choral director Mr. Stevens.  Two other teachers, Mrs. Dotson and Mrs. Andrus directed the Beaver Dam Show Choir in the presentation of seasonal favorites. Mr. Budd and Mr. Patterson directed the guitar ensemble.

There was standing room only as Miss Susan’s restaurant was transformed into an auditorium.  All of the students stood proudly, dressed in their bright and beautiful outfits, as families and friends enjoyed every song performed.  The singing was so heartfelt that it’s rumored that it could be heard in Mesquite!  A bit of disappointment settled on the audience when top eagle, Mrs. Leavitt, concluded the performance by wishing everyone the happiest of vacations.  As she so aptly put it, “We love our students, the families, and everything that makes us such a great school!”

The guitar ensemble started the show with a well-rehearsed rendition of “Jingle Bells”.  It is obvious that these students have worked hard to learn how to play their guitars! They sounded terrific as they played and sang the song.  There could be a budding Paul McCartney or George Harrison in that group!

The performance continued with the preschoolers who resembled reindeer with their sparkly horns and red painted noses.  There is nothing like a group of preschoolers dancing and singing the “Reindeer Hokey Pokey” to get the audience in a jovial mood.

Show Choir. Submitted photo.

The talent of the Show Choir was very evident as they beautifully sang “Christmas is Coming”, “Have a Holly, Jolly Christmas”, and a hauntingly lovely rendition of “Stars were Gleaming/Silent Night”.  Not a sound could be heard as they finished a hushed “sleep in heavenly peace”.

The entire student body sang a selection of songs which was perfect for expressing the spirit of the season.  Their Spanish skills were evident as they sang “Feliz Navidad”.  There were several audible chuckles as the audience listened to the tune of “Grandma got Run Over by a Reindeer”.  Three well-known musical selections followed:  “Little Drummer Boy” (with some students playing musical instruments), “Santa Claus is Coming to Town”, and “All through the Night”.  The audience was invited to join along with three more favorites:  “Rudolph”, “Jingle Bells” (which had many choir members playing bells), and “We wish you a Merry Christmas”.  The last number was “Silent Night/Noche de Paz”.  It was a perfect ending for an outstanding program in which the beloved eaglets were all top stars.  A big double wing eagle salute goes out to Mr. Stevens, Mrs. Dotson, Mrs. Andrus, Mr. Budd, Mr. Patterson,  and all of the others who worked diligently to put on such an entertaining program.
