Bulldog boy basketball team ends Legacy Tip-Off with two losses

The young Virgin Valley High School Bulldog boy basketball team lost their last two games at the Legacy Tip-Off Saturday, but gained a tremendous amount of experience. The Dawgs faced the Spring Valley High School Grizzlies Saturday morning, December 6, and lost 48-43. The Dawgs were tied at the half 19-19 and led 36-26 at the end of three periods of play but could not hold on to the lead. The Grizzlies outscored the Dawgs 22-7 in the last period to take the win. Marcus Saunders led the Dawgs offense with 16 points followed by Cody Burnside with seven points. Zach Barnum and Jarrett Tietjen added five points each for the Dawgs. Burnside had eight boards to lead the Dawgs defense.

It was Deja-vu all over gain for the Dawgs as they could not hold a 23-18 lead after one half of play Saturday afternoon and lost to the Buckaroos from Lowery High School of Winnemucca by a score of 57-43. The Buckaroos outscored the Dawgs 39-20 in the second half to win easily. Free throws continued to hurt the Dawgs as they were only 4-12 from the line. Saunders led the Dawgs with 11 points followed by Burnside with nine points and Cody Jones with eight points. The Bulldogs will host Kanab High School (Utah) at 6 p.m. Friday night, December 12, in their first game of the Bulldog Invitational Tournament. The tournament begins at 3 p.m. with Moapa Valley facing Shadow Ridge. The 4:30 p.m. game features Desert Oasis against Utah’s small school, Enterprise. The concluding match of the evening features a strong Mojave High School team and Division 1 Bonanza.
