Last weekend, many people showed up to nearly sold-out shows at the Mesquite Community Theatre directed by Larry LeMieux and sponsored by the Greater Mesquite Arts Foundation (GMAF).

The Country and Rock & Roll Show had an all-star cast with singers, dancers and musicians from the community providing an enjoyable night. Elvis even graced the crowd with his presence, singing ‘That’s Alright.’

Other performers included the Mesquite Toes, All That Jazz dance group, performers from Relevé Dance Studio and many others.

The biggest hit of the night, however, came towards the end as John Dearing and Brian Wursten morphed into the Blues Brothers. Joined by the Mesquite Community Band, the duo performed three songs with classic Blues Brothers moves.

With Mesquite’s busy season in full swing, GMAF and Larry LeMieux are already planning on bringing in their 2014 Annual Community Christmas Variety Show, which is slated for December 5 and 6 at 7 p.m. at the theatre, 150 N. Yucca St. This year’s theme is ‘A Christmas Story’ with scenes and songs from the movie being reenacted by local performers as well as other singers, choirs and dancers. The Mesquite Community Band is also slated to perform.

Tickets will be available at Danielle’s Chocolates, Mesquite Fine Arts Gallery, Mesquite Chamber of Commerce or at the Theatre Box office during normal business hours of 5 – 7 p.m. on Thursdays and Fridays, as well as one hour before show time.
