Couple Arrested For Attempted Burglary

Sunday, November 9, The Mesquite Police Department received a call from a local business owner who reported a suspicious person attempting to open one of the doors to their business. The business owner reported the suspicious person quickly left the area when they heard the business owner inside.

Officers promptly located the suspect vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. The vehicle was found to be driven by a female adult, with a male adult as a passenger. Further investigation determined the vehicle they were driving was reported stolen. Also found inside the vehicle were burglary tools and various items believed to have been stolen.

Barnett, NaomiThe driver identified as Naomi Barnett, 30, of Las Vegas was arrested and charged with felony attempted burglary, felony possession of a stolen vehicle, and various misdemeanor traffic offenses.

The passenger identified as Paul Sanchez, 25, of Las Vegas was arrestedSanchez, Paul and charged with felony attempted burglary, felony possession of a stolen vehicle, and a gross misdemeanor for possession of burglary tools. This case is currently under investigation and further charges are pending.

Chief Troy Tanner stated “It is always the goal of the Mesquite Police Department to have a rapid response to calls of service. One of the many ways we assure quick response times is; officers are assigned to geographical areas throughout the city. Whenever and wherever a call may come in, rest assured one of our officers will be close by.” Chief Tanner also credited dispatchers and officers by stating “If it weren’t for the quick work and actions of the men and women of the Mesquite Police Department the couple would have continued on their crime spree and then abruptly left town.”
