TUESDAY: YEH IS STILL AT THE TOPMMGA logo

As MMGA players get closer to their club championship in mid November Andrew Yeh continues to play as the person to beat as the best player in the club.  On Tuesday at Falcon Ridge he recorded birdies on one and nine for a two under par 33 on the front side.  He birdied holes 10 and 12 for 37 on the back and an even par round of 72.  The next player to him was the perennial champion Ron Manthey who made the turn at one over par 36 but had some problems with the 42 on the back.  Contenders new member Jon Hawkins struggled and Dave Jordan left with back problems.  Terry Gardner continues to play well from the forward tees and again shot 81 for a net 67 and first place.  He could have a  target on his back to be the one to beat for best low net in the upcoming club tournament.  Neil Hendricks (81) beat out Manthey for second low net at 70 with a par on the second handicap hole.  Manthey was awarded second low gross.  Bill Irace (83) and Aaron Kennard (88) tied for third net with 71.  Irace was awarded third with a nice par four on the 13th hole.  Ben Bishop (85) and Gary Denhalter (91) tied for 5th.  Both players scored a 7 on the first handicap hole and Denhalter was given 5th place with a par on number six.

The shot / hole of the day was recorded by Neil Hendricks.  On the difficult 13 hole he had to lay up with his second shot.  His third shot landed in the water.  With a drop out he hit his 5th shot unto the green and it rolled into the cup for a…hmm great bogey five.

Welcome back “snowballs” Aaron Kennard, Jim Naccarato and Gary Denhalter

THURSDAY – MILLER WINS INAUGURAL DAY WITH MMGA

Like a breath of fresh air, a new generation has chosen to join the MMGA.  Last year it was Andrew Yeh.  Two weeks ago it was Jonathon Hawkins.  And this week we welcome Tim Miller.  Miller showed no jitters on his first day as he tackled the Palms golf course with two birdies and a one under par 35 on the front followed by a one over 37 on the return trip for even par 72 and medalist honors.  Welcome to the club Tim!  The two week old member, Hawkins, was just as impressive with two birdies and finished three shots back with 75.  Last years wonder, Andrew Yeh, had three birdies and also recorded a one under par 35 on the front.  Five bogies on the back resulted in a 40 and a tie with Hawkins for second gross 75.  Ben Bishop (78) and Dick Swayne (79) were not giving in to the “young” kids just yet.  Bishop led the low net group with a 67.  Bill Irace (81) and Swayne tied for second at 70.  But Irace prevailed with his great par four on the 18th hole.  There was also a tie for 4th between Yeh and Gary Denhalter (89) with net 71.  Both players bogeyed the par five 4th and Yeh’s bogey five on 18 awarded him that coveted 4th spot dropping Denhalter to fifth.  The oddity of the day goes to Don Mannon with five straight fives and to J.P. LaLiberte with his six straight fours.

Another welcome to our latest member, Tim Miller.  In case I missed you, Bob Chambers, a huge welcome back from the tundra.

The next scheduled play is on Tuesday, Nov 4th at the Falcon Ridge at 7:40 and Thursday, Nov 6th at 8:30 at the Palms.  Always check your sign up sheets for any corrected times or places.  Anyone interested in joining the MMGA can call 346-6363.  Also check out our website at www.mesquitemensgolf.com.
