Paintings of Willy Bauman are featured at the Lost City Museum in October. The works depict the vibrant natural and architectural side of the southwest. Highlights of the show include lifelike paintings of historic missions, animals and fauna.
Bauman was born and raised in Switzerland. He immigrated to the United States and opened a bakery in Lake Tahoe. He became an accomplished baker and devoted almost 30 years to his art. After retiring to southern Nevada, he began painting.
“I was always loved art, but did not have the time to paint while I was working,” he said. Since retiring, Bauman said, he has had many desert adventures with friends looking for subjects to paint. He has received many private commissions throughout the country.
The Lost City Museum actively engages people in understanding and celebrating Nevada’s natural and cultural heritage. One of seven managed by the Nevada Division of Museums and History, an agency of the Nevada Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, the museum is now open daily from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Admission is $5, children and members enter free at 721 South Moapa Valley Blvd in Overton. Take Interstate 15 to exit 93. Access is also available from Lake Mead National Recreation Area or the Valley of Fire State Park.
