It didn’t take the Virgin Valley High School Bulldog Junior Varsity football team very long Thursday night to make Chaparral High School Cowboy’s night in Mesquite miserable as the Dawgs’ Jared Tietjen intercepted the first pass of the game giving the Dawgs a first down on the Cowboys 35 yard line. Six Tietjen running plays later the Dawgs led by 6-0. Caesar Zarate’s extra point was good. The Cowboys seemed not to have an answer for the Bulldogs ‘Wildcat back’ offense throughout the game as the Dawgs prevailed easily 49-0 in the Dawg Pound.

The first period ended with the Dawgs on the front end of a 7-0 score. The Bulldogs began their first possession of the second period on their 45 yard line. The Bulldogs would score four plays later on a 35 yard keeper by quarterback Hogan Fowles. Zarate’s PAT was good and the Bulldogs led 14-0 two minutes into the period. The Bulldogs would add another score prior to halftime on a Fowles pass to Tietjen for 40 yards and a T.D. Zarate’s PAT was good making the score 21-0 in favor of the host Bulldogs.

The Dawgs received the second opening kickoff and drove for a touchdown on a Fowles pass once again to Tietjen for the final 26 yards. The PAT failed making the score 27-0 in favor of the Dawgs. The Cowboys attempted a fourth down pass from their own 30 yard line but it fell incomplete. The Bulldogs would make the Cowboys pay as they scored quickly with Tietjen going the final 13 yards. Zarate added the PAT upping the Dawgs lead to 34-0. A bad snap by the Cowboys on their next possession gave the Dawgs a first down on the Cowboys 15 yard line. Jacob Ruvalcaba went the final 5 yards for the score. A Tietjen pass to Jace Burrows added two more points to the Bulldog collection making the score 42-0 after three periods.

The Bulldogs would add one more score in the fourth period on a Burrows 22 yard run. The PAT was good making the final score 49-0. The Bulldogs travel to Boulder City to face the Eagles on Thursday October 23 hoping to cap an undefeated season.
