Living out our faith

Pastor BillI believe that everyone would agree that we are experiencing a crisis of confidence in our country, the economy, unemployment, and the Ebola Scare.

A lot of people I’ve talked to lately are very uneasy, on edge about the future: How do we handle what’s going on in our world. I believe we must look at facing all of life with faith. It is one of the most important principles we need to survive in a time of uncertainty.

God gives us the power to overcome our obstacles, but many times we are filled with fear and skepticism, we often let difficulties control our lives. When we follow God regardless of the difficulties, we can survive.

The Christian life is really pretty simple, Love God with all your heart. Love your neighbor as yourself, and have faith.

So what is faith? Faith is a word with many meanings, it can mean absolute trust, and it can mean confident hope. Faith is the key that unlocks all that God wants to do in our lives. Faith makes the difference. Real faith is more than words. It isn’t just a Sunday morning thing. Our faith should affect how we live our life throughout the week. Real faith results in good deeds and compassion toward others. Real faith shows in how we live.

Our confidence in God provides peace of mind, purpose in life, and hope for the future. As Corrie Ten Boom put it, “Faith is like radar that sees through the fog of reality of things at a distance that the human eye cannot see. Faith sees the invisible, believes in the incredible and receives the impossible.”

Faith is believing even when we don’t see it. The Bible teaches that faith is visualizing the future while you’re in the present. Man says: “Seeing is believing.” God says the opposite. “Believing is seeing.” And some things in life, we have to believe them before we can see them.

In 1960, JFK stood up and said: “Let’s put a man on the moon by the end of the decade.” When he said that, the technology had not even been invented to put a man on the moon. But some things have to be believed before we can see them. Everything that’s happened in life was an impossibility before it became a reality and somebody had to believe it. Faith is simply trusting God to turn dreams into reality. Nothing new happens until somebody believes it’s possible.

Faith is also obeying when we don’t understand it. At seventy-five years of age, Abraham started out on the greatest journey of his life and became the father of a nation. It didn’t make any sense But God said, “Do it.” He left his own country without knowing where he was going. Would we go?

Now, there are a lot of people who want a guarantee of success before they try anything, but God says, “No.” Because faith always involves risks, He wants us to trust Him.

Faith is a lifestyle that believes when we don’t see it and obeys when we don’t understand it, that’s what it means to live by faith.

When we look at our problem; we’re going to get distressed. We’ve got to look around the problem, over the problem, under the problem, sideways, through the problem, whatever, so that we see God. If we look at God, He’ll give us the power to keep on keeping on. God says, in Lamentations “I will give you the strength to persevere if you keep your eyes on Me.”

Faith is putting all your eggs in God’s basket, and then counting your blessings before they hatch!
Got faith? Whatever the seemingly impossible is that you may be facing, the question is this: Are you facing it with faith in God? Or will you let fear prevail?
Facing life’s impossibilities become possible with God. Jesus Himself said, “with God all things are possible” Matthew 19:26.
