In the J. L. Bowler cafeteria is a beautiful flag created by the students and staff as a 9/11 remembrance.
The J. L. Bowler student council led by Mrs. Kelle Sudweeks organized this project. During the week of 9-11 each student in the school was asked to write on a handprint an act of service they completed. The staff members did the same on stars. Students of the school participated in a short patriotic ceremony on the morning of 9/11/14. The classes discussed the history of that day and learned that acts of service were one way to honor the sacrifices and remember those who died on 9/11/01. Mrs. Sudweeks, the student council, and other teacher volunteers figured out how to put the handprints and stars together to form a large flag. The custodians did the work of attaching the flag high on the wall in the cafeteria/multi-purpose room where all the students could see it and be reminded each day.
