The weather is cooling off, the leaves are falling, it’s almost Halloween . . .  that means flu season is right around the corner. This year, the Southern Nevada Health District’s flu vaccine clinics will begin at 8 a.m., Monday, Oct. 6 at all locations including the Mesquite branch at 830 Hafen Lane.

The cost of the vaccine is $40; the high dose vaccine for people age 65 and over is $56. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that manufacturers will produce between 154 million and 160 million doses of flu vaccine for the upcoming season with no anticipated shortages.

The health district encourages everyone to get flu vaccinations, especially persons at high-risk of complications from the flu including children younger than 5 (children younger than 2 years old are at highest risk), adults 65 years of age and older, and pregnant women.
