Hopefuls Must Pass Written Exams Before Submitting Applications

Starting today, firefighter recruitment candidates who successfully pass written exams can submit job applications online with the fire departments of their choice participating in a regional recruitment drive.

Applications will be accepted online only through the recruitment drive website at www.snvfirecruitment.com beginning Monday, Oct. 27, through Wednesday, Nov. 26.  Interested firefighter applicants are required to take and pass a written exam in order to apply for a job with any of six area fire departments that are participating in the recruitment drive. Participating agencies are Las Vegas Fire and Rescue, Clark County, North Las Vegas, Henderson, Boulder City and Pahrump Valley Fire Rescue. Information about the minimum qualifications for each department, the testing process and other requirements are available on the website.

Written tests for the departments also are conducted online through the snvfirerecruitment.com website. The cost to apply to all agencies and take their written tests is $55. Candidates also must provide proof of passing the Candidate Physical Abilities Test (CPAT) exam no later than Dec. 15, 2014, in order to be considered for a position with any participating fire department. The CPAT can be taken at the College of Southern Nevada’s new firefighter testing center at 2925 Lincoln Road, near Cheyenne Avenue and Lamb Boulevard. The cost is $150 and appointments are suggested and can be obtained by registering through the college’s CPAT website at www.csn.edu/cpat. Candidates who successfully complete the application and testing process will be forwarded to fire departments for consideration as openings occur within their departments for the next year.

The joint recruitment was launched in August to save local governments the cost of doing independent recruitment efforts. The process also is more efficient for candidates because they can apply with more than one agency from the same application. Several outreach sessions have been held throughout the community to help interested candidates learn about the recruitment process, get information about job requirements for the different departments and learn about the testing, application and selection process.  The next outreach session will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 29, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the administrative building conference room at Sunset Park, 2601 E. Sunset Rd. The last two outreach sessions are:

  • Friday, Nov. 7, 2-4 p.m., Mountain Crest Park Center, 4701 N Durango Drive
  • Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2-4 p.m., Robert Bob Price Community Center, 2050 Bonnie Lane
