The Mesquite Elks Lodge #2811 has completed its annual Dictionary Project chaired by Elk member Genie Barton.  Each year, the Elks Lodge gives dictionaries to every third-grade student in each of the elementary schools in Mesquite, Beaver Dam, Bunkerville, Logandale, and Moapa.

The purpose of the program is to promote literacy to children as they move from learning to read to identifying and using information.  Since 2004, the Elks nationwide have donated over 1.2 million dictionaries to third-grade students and their teachers.

The Mesquite Elks Lodge credits the success of this program to the willingness of these schools and, in particular, the third-grade teachers who have embraced the program.  Their enthusiasm and dedication to helping broaden the learning experience of these young students is an outstanding example of the quality of education provided by these teachers and the Elks Lodge commends their on-going support of this program.
