The Virgin Valley High School girls’ and boys’ soccer teams defeated the Boulder City High School Eagles Tuesday afternoon by scores of 7-2 and 6-1 respectively.

The girls came out focused after their disappointing 2-2 tie at Moapa Valley last week. They scored early and often as they overwhelmed the Eagles at the Mesquite Sports and Events Center. Emma Dodenbier gave the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead three and one half minutes into the match placing a penalty shot in the box through the Eagle goalkeeper. Bulldog Abbie Barnum would team up with Kari Wakefield for two of her four goals for her afternoon’s work. The Bulldogs led 3-0 after 13 minutes of play. Kallie Graves then took a great pass from Marlene Quirarte to up the Dawgs lead to 4-0 three minutes later. Barnum would add two more at the 35 and 39 minute mark of the first half. The Bulldogs would empty their bench after their last goal. Boulder would score the final goal of the game at the 59 minute mark making the final score 7-2 in favor of the Bulldogs. “It’s hard to stay focused when you have a 6-0 lead,” said Bulldog Coach Bob Snell. “After the tie with Moapa, the girls did not take the Eagles lightly. They did exactly what they needed to do and stayed focus on the game. We got the subs a lot of playing time today.”

The Bulldogs’ league record now stands at 4-1-1 and 7-4-3 overall. The Bulldogs travel to Sunrise Mountain tomorrow before returning on Monday to host Chaparral High School.
