The Virgin Valley High School Bulldogs took a step closer to the 1-A Sunrise Division playoffs defeating the win-less Del Sol High School Dragons 3-0 at the Mesquite Sports and Events Center. Top scorer Abbie Barnum led the Dawgs with a goal and an assist. Kennedi Ludvigson and Kari Ludvigson also contributed a goal each while mid-fielder Emma Dodenbier added an assist for the Dawgs. The Dawgs led at the break 1-0 and finished off the Dragons with two goals in the second half. Goalkeeper Spencer Green had two saves to earn the shutout. “We came out flat and had no enthusiasm in the first half,” said Bulldog coach Bob Snell. “We picked it up in the second half but cannot play this way against Good teams.”

With the win the Bulldogs conference record went to 6-2-3, good enough for third place in the conference. The Bulldogs will host fourth place Moapa Valley High School on Monday at 6pm at the Sports and Events Center. A Bulldog win over the Pirates will insure a third place seeding in the playoffs. The Pirates are led by striker Alexis Schraft and McKayla Jackson. The Bulldogs need to win out to have any opportunity to move up in the standings. They finish the regular season against Boulder City and Sunrise High Schools. The Sunrise game could be the most important game of the season.
