The Virgin Valley High School football program future looks bright as the freshman defeated the Chaparral High School Cowboys 49-6 in the ‘Dawg Pound’ Thursday night for their seventh win of the season. The freshman squad has one more game next Thursday in Boulder City in an attempt to cap a perfect season.

The young Dawgs started slowly on their first possession as they were intercepted by the Cowboys. The Cowboys went four in out giving the ball back to the Dawgs on their 33 yard line. The Dawgs struck quickly with quarterback Cade Anderson hitting a streaking Dillon Fuqua for 63 yards and the game’s first touchdown. Fuqua’s point after kick was good making the score 7-0. The Dawgs added six more points 20 seconds later on a fumble recovery and run by Jaden Perkins. Fuqua’s kick sailed wide. The first period ended shortly thereafter.

The Dawgs held the Cowboys on their first possession forcing a punt to Bulldog Trevon Hollingshead who wound his way 90 yards for an apparent touchdown. The play was called back due to a holding penalty on the Dawgs. The Bulldogs began their next drive from their 14 yard line with Hollingshead going the last 9 yards for the score. Fuqua’s PAT was good upping the Dawgs lead to 20-0. The Dawgs defense held again giving the Dawgs possession on their 45 yard line. Anderson then hit receiver Logan Felix for a 30 yard T.D. strike increasing the Dawgs lead to 26-0 as Fuqua’s PAT sailed wide. The half ended with the Dawgs in front.

The Cowboys would strike quickly to begin the second half on a Julius Hernandez 95 yard kickoff return for the score cutting the Dawgs lead to 26-6. The PAT kick failed. The Bulldogs answered back with two scores, one on a Jaden Perkins run and a fumble recovery and run by Trevor Anderson making the score 41-6 after three periods of play.

The Bulldogs would add one more score in the fourth period on an Anderson 35 yard pass to Felix making the final score Bulldogs 49-6 over the Cowboys. “We stick together as a team,” said Coach Nick Montoya. “This is a talented and smart bunch of kids and I am excited for them.”
