It didn’t take long for the top 1-A team in the South to score Tuesday afternoon, exactly 40 seconds, into the match. The undefeated Southern Nevada Vocational Technical Center, TECH for short, put the Lady Dawgs on their heels on Melissa Lopez’s goal. “I’m so proud of my girls,” said Bulldog Coach Bob Snell. A lot of teams would have folded after that initial score but the Lady Dawgs battled the rest of the 79:20 minutes of the game holding the Roadrunners to zero goals.

Despite trailing 1-0 early, the Lady Bulldogs controlled the midfield and kept the TECH team off balance with their crisp passing and tough defensive play. The Dawgs had the opportunity to tie the match 11 minutes in but Dawg Abbie Barnum’s back to back attempts were blocked by the Roadrunner goalkeeper. The halftime ended with the Bulldogs having 3 shots on goal while the Roadrunners attempted four.

The second half of the match was all TECH; the Roadrunners attacked the Bulldog defense with aggressive play. The roles seemed to reverse with the Roadrunners controlling the midfield keeping the Bulldogs in defensive mode the rest of the match. Great and steady play by Bulldog goalkeeper Spencer Green helped the Dawgs with her work around the net. Green had 11 saves for the Dawgs. The Roadrunners outshot the Lady Dawgs 19-5 for the game, 15-2 in the second half. “Our girls were loose and not afraid,” said Coach Snell after the match. “Were still a young team and are getting better every week.”

The Lady Dawgs next three matches will be away before returning to host Boulder City on October 7.
