John 23:46- “Father I entrust my spirit into your hands”MLN-Obit1oct2-14

Roy Eugene Rogers came into this world on November 22, 1946 in Medford, Ore. Roy went to be with our Lord and Savior on September 19, 2014 at home in Mesquite. Roy was the son of Earl Eugene Rogers and Edith Mae Short Rogers. Roy met the love of his life and soul mate, Barbara on November 22, 1976. From the moment Roy and Barbara met, they knew their destiny was to spend all eternity joined as one.  God did join them in marriage on May 17, 1980.  Roy and Barbara were inseparable.  Each was the other’s entire world.  Roy has now been set free from the chains of cancer.  The last words Roy spoke were to Barbara saying “I love you”.  Barbara will cherish those words forever.

Roy was unique, witty, funny, loving & caring. He always made us laugh.  Roy loved to fish more than anything else.  Before Roy was felled by a stroke in 2001, he loved to golf and bowl.  Roy and Barbara loved to travel.  They were blessed to have taken numerous cruises and many road trips through their near 38 years together.  Roy always told Barbara “Let’s go, anytime, anywhere, and place, let’s just go”.  Barbara willingly and lovingly put her hand in his and said “let’s go”!  They enjoyed many trips in Roy’s Jeep, Nelly Bell, They loved exploring God’s creation in the desert surrounding Mesquite.  Their adventures were countless!  Flat Top Mesa was a favorite!

Roy was an awesome, loving, guiding Grandfather to Jason, Dallen, Austin and Brendon Whitney.  His connection to his Grandsons will never be broken; Roy also had a special connection with his Godson, Garrett Holland.  Roy also has three Granddaughters, Anagabriela, Angelica and Amber Sweeney.  Roy is not only survived by the love of his life, Barbara, but also sons, Richard Whitney, Anthony Sweeney; daughter, Laura Miller; sister, Beverly Rhoby; brother-in-laws, Richard Rhoby, Bruce and David Hudson; sister-in-law, Mary Hudson; mother-in-law, Martha Hudson; nephews, Vince and Dave Hudson, David Greer, Dusty and Jake Rhoby; nieces, Kari Greer, Paula and Tara Rhoby, Nevena and Melissa Hudson; great-nephews, Julian Hudson, Kelsey Greer, Brenden and Alex Rhoby; great-nieces, Summer Greer, Darcie and Abby Rhoby.

Roy also always considered the mother of his Godson, Lisa Ratkelis, as his “daughter”. (Lisa, you were my rock that last week and were there to help Roy communicate by blinking!)  Baby doll, you were my rock, my life, my love. I will love you for all eternity. Happy Trails, until we meet again in Heaven.
