NDOT bThe Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) is pleased to announce that one southbound lane and two northbound lanes on I-15 near Moapa are now open.  Restrictions on commercial vehicles have been lifted; however, over-dimensional vehicles will be required to obtain permits prior to using this route.

A severe rainstorm flooded the area near Moapa on September 8 with five inches of rain in two hours. Interstate 15 was severely eroded by flood waters in the Moapa and Glendale areas. NDOT maintenance crews responded overnight to clear and reopen the road. Contractor Las Vegas Paving (LVP) placed nearly 50,000 cubic yards of earthwork to shore up the base and then repave the eroded interstate, opening it to traffic in just four days.  NDOT and LVP opened one-lane in each direction last Friday. The impacted area of the interstate is traveled by more than 25,000 vehicles, including many commercial vehicles.  NDOT and Las Vegas Paving crews have been working around-the-clock to swiftly get I-15 repaired and opened for the traveling public.

“Our top priority continues to be the mobility and safety of motorists,” NDOT Director Rudy Malfabon said. “The flooding left extensive damage to approximately two miles of I-15, but we’re pleased to say that, less than two weeks after the flood, additional lanes of the interstate are now open. Rebuilding and repaving the interstate so quickly and proficiently is nothing short of amazing, and we thank Las Vegas Paving for their work. We also thank the Nevada Trucking Association and Nevada Department of Public Safety for their coordination and cooperation, and all motorists for their understanding.”
