Sgt. Mike Van Houten and Officer Darren Wilkins from the Mesquite Police Department were guests of the Mesquite Sunrise Rotary Club and spoke to the club members. Sgt. Wilkins is the Resource Officer for the police department at the local schools and the following programs are offered through the MPD: DARE for the 5th grade students, The G.R.E.A.T. Program for 7th graders and the Trunk or Treat event held every Halloween.

Sgt. Mike Van Houten also informed the club of the “Every 15 Minute” program they hold at VVHS every 4 years. This program is an effective way to demonstrate to high school youth the dangers and consequences of driving under the influence.

He also reminded the club of the Mesquite Night Out program taking place on September 25th at the Rec Center. The community is invited to participate in promoting their service clubs. The Mesquite Sunrise Rotary will be participating in this event and providing information about Rotary and the important role it provides in the community.
