Moise Medina had a career day for the Virgin Valley High School Bulldogs Wednesday afternoon at the recreation center soccer fields. Medina had five goals to lead the Dawgs to a 6-3 win over the Jaguars from Desert Pines High School.

The Jaguars came out attacking the Bulldogs for the first few minutes of the first half before the Dawgs offense hit high gear. Medina struck goal at the 12 minute mark and followed that with another goal 7 minutes later on a Roman Perez pass. The Jaguars had an opportunity to score at the 21 minute mark but were stopped on a great save from Bulldog goalkeeper Domingo Ramirez. Luis Rivera got the Jaguars on the scoreboard with five minutes left in the half to cut the Dawgs lead to 2-1. The score seemed to motivate the Bulldogs as Medina got the hat trick with his third goal on an assist from Efren Rodriquez a minute later. The half ended with the Dawgs up 3-1.

The Dawgs seemed to go into a funk to begin the second half as the charged up Jaguars took control with long passes down field. The Bulldog coaches exhorted their charges as best they could but seemed worried when the Jaguars Pablo Martinez cut the Dawgs lead to 3-2 at the 59 minute mark of the match. Bulldog Pedro Osuma-Gomez was up to the challenge splitting the Jaguar defense on a pass to Uli Flores upping the Dawgs lead to 4-2. The Jaguars refused to go away and hit goal on a foul free kick in the box by Alex De La Rosa again cutting the Dawg lead to one goal 4-3. The Jaguars continued to challenge the Dawgs defense and had an opportunity to tie the match at the 28 minute mark but were rebuked by a Ramirez save. Medina got back on track hitting his fourth goal of the game with 10 minutes remaining. Rodriquez had the assist for the Dawgs. Medina would end the scoring with goal # 5 with three minutes remaining in the game. The 6-3 win gave the Bulldogs a 1-1 league record and 3-2-2 overall. The Bulldogs will travel to Canyon Springs High School on September 19 to face the Division 1 Pioneers who are 7-2-1 for the season. The Bulldogs return to league play on September 23 against the TECH Roadrunners. The Dawgs next home game will be on September 29 hosting the Del Sol Jaguars.
