Hundreds of local resident’s young and old had a great time at Mesquite’s version of “National Night Out” Friday night at the Recreation Departments soccer fields. Mesquite Police Department officer Justin Goodsell led a parade of police, fire, EMT’s and other Mesquite and surrounding community protective services vehicles onto the soccer field. Minutes later the roar of a helicopter drew every ones attention to the skies. Mercy Helicopter landed and after shutting down the engine the occupants were overwhelmed by children and adults alike wanting a first-hand look at the vehicle.
Event Coordinator Sergeant Mike Van Houten of the Mesquite Police Department took center stage to welcome all the participants and residents of Mesquite. The Mesquite Veterans Honor Guard posted the colors prior to Officer R. Stepp leading the throng in the “Pledge Of Allegience”. He explained the different activities taking place surrounding the field. There were Fire Dept. demonstrations, safe driving techniques, roll-car demonstration, police dog training and many more.

Individual organizations set up booths handing out promotional data regarding their cause. Some of the participants included, The Salvation Army, Women’s Defensive Weaponry, Chamber of Commerce and others too numerous to mention.
The Virgin Valley High School Show Choir performed at center stage along with Elvis impersonator Dr. Neilson. Also on stage demonstrating their Taekwondo techniques were local youth and children. Officer Stepp announced food was available supplied by Mesquite Lodge #2811 throughout the evening.
The event ended without any emergencies taking Mesquite’s finest away from an enjoyable show and tell demonstration and party.
