Lady Bulldog volleyball squad shuts down Dragons 3-0

The Virgin Valley High School Bulldog volleyball squad defeated the Dragons from Del Sol High School Monday evening in three straight matches. Abbie Barnum had seven kills and four aces for the Lady Dawgs followed by Bernice Fiso with five kills and three aces. Janella Fiso also had a good offensive game with 23 assists and three aces.

The Dawgs won the first match 25-23 despite trailing 5-9 early. The Dawgs tied the match at 12-12 on an ace from Barnum. Bernice Fiso followed with a kill to give the Dawgs the lead. The Dawgs made four service errors down the stretch but held on to win 25-23.

The Lady Dawgs jumped on the Dragons early in the night’s second match leading 15-6 behind five service points by Bulldog Lexi Thompson. Thompson had two aces during the run. The Fiso sisters along with Barnum kept the Dragons offside with fine volleyball play inside. The Dawgs won easily 25-16

The third game of the evening was a mirror image of the first as the Dawgs won 25-19. The Dawgs led by only 8-7 early before going on a 10- 4 tear to lead 18-11. Bernice Fiso had a massive kill during the Bulldog run. Barnum followed up with two kills as the Bulldogs opened up a big lead.

The Bulldogs record went to 3-2 in league play and 9-11 overall. The Dawgs defeated the Sunrise Mountain Miners 25-14, 25-19 and 25-19 Saturday afternoon. Janella Fiso had 20 assists and six aces to lead the Dawgs win.

The Dawgs host the Desert Pines Jaguars Wednesday in the Dawg Pound.
