npsDrivers Under the Influence the Focus of Statewide Law Enforcement Aug. 25-Sept. 7

Labor Day weekend remains one of the deadliest holidays on our nation’s roadways. Law enforcement agencies statewide are reminding motorists and motorcycle riders to celebrate the long weekend responsibly and to never drive or ride impaired.

Law enforcement officers are “Joining Forces” to increase patrols for impaired drivers and riders between Aug. 25 and Sept. 7.

Nearly one-third of fatal crashes in Nevada involve impaired drivers. In 2013, 131 motorists were killed in crashes in Nevada. During that same time period, 53 Nevada motorcyclists died in crashes, an increase of 39 percent over 2012.

Law enforcement officers encourage motorists to call 911 if they witness drivers or riders who may be impaired.

Making the decision to drive impaired, whether it is alcohol or drugs, can quickly turn a good time bad with lasting consequences. The cost of a DUI is more than $10,000 when legal fees, court fines and higher insurance rates are considered.
