Mesquite will host the Region 2 qualifier for the RE/MAX World Long Drive Championship on Friday and Saturday at the Mesquite Sports & Event Complex. Friday will feature three Open Division sessions with the first one from 7:30-9 a.m., 9:30-11 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Saturday’s session begins at 7 a.m.

The top Open Division competitors from this Regional Championship, representing California and Nevada, will earn spots in the 2014 RE/MAX World Long Drive Championship field in Mesquite on Sept 20-27.

The Golf Channel, in their second year of extensive Long Drive coverage, designated October as “Long Drive Month.” The Golf Channel will show player feature stories and cover all the drama and action during events in Mesquite and will premier four distinct shows on Tuesday nights on Oct. 14, 21, 28 and on Nov. 4 (live).

“We welcome the longest golfers on the planet and their fans to the best Long Drive facility in the world at the Mesquite Sports & Event Complex,” said Bryan Dangerfield, Mesquite Director of Athletics & Leisure Services. “Long Drive is a fan-friendly sport–it gives golf an adrenaline rush, the athletes are up close and personal and there is one objective; whoever crushes the longest ball, conquers all. We are anxious to see who will qualify to come back for Championship Week in September.”

In addition to earning a spot in the World Championship Field, a $2,000 purse is up for grabs with first place $1,000; second place $600, third place $400.

Mesquite has hosted the RE/MAX World Long Drive Championships for the past 19 years; with the last seven on the Grid at the Mesquite Sports & Event Complex.
