HOEPFNER FINDS HIS GAME

Ed Hoepfner was beginning to wonder if he had lost his game and should finally move up to the forward tees to enjoy golf.  On Tuesday at the Palms golf course all of the doubt is over.  He started to get a lot of pars seven of them on the front side alone with a birdie thrown in for a very nice even par 36.  On the back he added six more pars for a 40 and a complete round of 76.  Welcome back to “golf is fun” club!.  Ron Manthey, and Andrew Yeh were three shots back in second place with 79’s.  Dan Troweer proved he really likes the shortened forward tees at the Palms as he recorded two birdies on two par threes on his way to a score of 87 and a first place low net of 67.  Just one shot back was Sterling Johnson (82) and net 68.  In total there were seven nine hole rounds in the 30’s.  Terry Gardner had the hole of the day.  On the par five 4th hole he hit his second shot in the water took a drop and hit his 4th shot to within four feet of the cup and sunk the putt for a “sweet” par five.  Welcome new member Rod Norrish to the MMGA.  Hope you will play well and often.

JORDAN LOSES TO YEH BUT TAKES LEAD IN SUMMER TOURNAMENT

Dave Jordan and Andrew Yeh battled it out for low gross again this time at the CasaBlanca golf course.  Yeh shot 37-39-76 while Jordan scored a pair of 38’s.  Yeh giggled his way to the third handicap hole where he grabbed low gross honors with a par four.  That did not make Jordan very happy.  As the two of them walked out the door to a later golf round at Falcon Ridge, Jordan was overheard smacking Yeh with “ if only I had my sand wedge I would have beaten you”.  The big news of the day was in the summer Fed Ex net tournament where Jordan’s net 69 earned him enough pts to over take Manny Lira’s first place with only four more events left in the tournament.  Jordan now has a 48 pt lead as they travel to Coral Canyon next Tuesday.  Dan Trower (91) leaped into third place bumping Don Mannon into fourth.  Bruce Herd turned in another fine performance with a 43-39-82 and net 68 tying Ed Hoepfner (81) for low net.  The tie was broken by Herd with a par on the toughest hole on the course number 17.  Herd in fact finished strong with a birdie on 13 and 15 to play the last six holes at even par.

The next scheduled play is on Tuesday, Aug 19th at Coral Canyon  at 9:00 and Thursday, Aug 21st at 7:15 at the Palms golf course.  Always check your sign up sheets for any corrected times or places.  Anyone interested in joining the MMGA can call 346-6363.  Also check out our website at www.mesquitemensgolf.com.
